Dueling Tea Party Factions?

In a previous post, I mentioned that I thought the far right was well organized with message control.  I’m going to have to back away from that statement and qualify it by saying that “some” of them are.  Based on what I’m reading, it appears that there are several factions of the Tea Party with each doing its own thing and apparently the Tea Party Federation , the group that supposedly kicked out  Mark Williams’ Tea Party Express, is a smaller, less powerful group, so it begs the question who really is in charge.  I’m starting to believe the this whole affair with the Tea Party Federation (a group that’s confused with “Star Trek” according to the Tea Party Express) is nothing more than a media event with no practical effect.  It also appears that Williams’ group has rustled up its own African-American spokesman in an apparent attempt to counter both the Federation’s David Webb  and the NAACP’s Ben Jealous in the person of one Lloyd Marcus who has been quoted at Williams’ blog.  Here’s what Marcus has to say:

Tea Partiers Easily Put On The Defensive. Stop it!

Tea Partiers Easily Put On The Defensive. Stop it!

It is truly unfortunate that some on our side are so easily put on the defensive. NAACP, president, Ben Jealous slandered millions of decent Tea Party patriots by saying we tolerate racists signs. We do not. Not one liberal mainstream media outlet demand that Jealous produce the “Lynch Barack Obama” and “Lynch Eric Holder” signs he claimed to have seen. Thus, the liberal media are saying these violent racist signs exist and the tea partiers are guilty simply because Jealous says so.

Furthering their efforts to discredit the tea party movement by portraying them as racist, the liberal media attacked our Mark Williams for a satirical comment on his blog. Mark is a personal friend who is not a racist; far from it. On his blog, Mark was making a point about the blatant hypocrisy and backwardness of the NAACP.

Meanwhile, the liberal media typically ignores “real racism” coming from the left. A member of the New Black Panther Party boldly proclaimed he hates crackers (white people) and they need to “kill more crackers”. Has the liberal media confronted the NAACP about denouncing the New Black Panthers’ hate-filled racist statement? No, they have not.

And yet, folks on our side ran to the microphones to denounce Mark Williams and Tea Party Express, which is the most effective, ethical and powerful conservative voice of We The People. Dear Lord people, wake up and smell the liberal media manipulation!

News Flash! The liberal mainstream media vehemently desire to “crush” the Tea Party Movement. They want us to fail! It is foolish to pander to our enemy. The liberal media will distort, lie and do whatever to divide and conquer us. Brothers and sisters, we can not fall for it. God bless.

Lest you miss who he is, Marcus goes all out to sign himself off as black and an “unhyphenated American”.  (He makes a big deal of dropping the hyphen, yet still identifies himself  parenthetically as “black”?  The hyphen is probably more efficient).

This is beginning to take on the appearance of a three ring circus and I’m really beginning to have the feeling that absolutely nothing happened here mainly because the role of all the black folks on the stage has actually been sponsored by someone else.  That’s obvious in the case of Marcus and Webb and less so when it comes to Jealous, but no less true.  I have some ambivalence about this as I’m glad to see the Tea Party get its comeuppance on the racist elements that exist within it, but I’m very aware of the fact that the interests of African-Americans have not been advanced, particularly when those interests are defined more broadly than the racism of the tea party or anyone else.
